What the fees mean

The current $325 NJICL All-Access Pass covers the full student-athlete season, including national and New Jersey league registration, insurance for team practices and league events, the spring race series, and other NJ NICA programming described on the league's official cost page.

The $50 Veloraptors team fee is separate and supports local team needs. NJ NICA, NICA, payment providers, camps, apparel, travel, equipment, or other optional activities may have costs outside the local team fee. Always use the current registration instructions as the final source before paying.

A Veloraptors Try-It ride is free. Dates remain TBD until the team confirms an event and sufficient coaching coverage.

Start with the essentials

Equipment families actually need

The goal is safe fit and reliable function. Families can add or upgrade equipment later if it becomes useful.

A safe mountain bike

The bike should fit the rider and have working brakes, tires, wheels, chain, and shifting appropriate for local trails.

Ask before buying

A properly fitting helmet

A cycling helmet is required for every practice, Try-It ride, and team riding activity.

Safety standards

Water and riding clothes

Bring a water bottle or hydration pack plus comfortable athletic clothing suitable for the weather and trail conditions.

Parent checklist

Upgrades can wait

Premium components and extensive gear are not required on day one. Start with the basics and upgrade only when fit, safety, comfort, or progression makes it useful.

Budget questions

Common cost and equipment questions

Contact the team if a cost or equipment question could prevent a rider from participating.

Does my rider need an expensive bike?

No. A safe, properly fitting, trail-ready mountain bike is the goal. Families do not need premium equipment to begin.

Does the NJICL fee include the local team fee?

No. The approved Veloraptors team fee is $50 and is separate from the NJICL All-Access Pass.

Are races included in the NJICL pass?

The current official NJ NICA cost page says the All-Access Pass includes the five-race spring series. Review the current league page and team instructions for final details.

Are loaner bikes available for adults?

No. Available loaner bikes are reserved for athletes. Riding coaches and adult volunteers should plan to use their own safe bike and gear.
