Team Schedule

Winter start

The NJ NICA season follows a winter and spring rhythm. During the shorter, colder days, the team usually practices once on weekends while daylight and trail conditions are limited.

Indoor fitness in the new year

As the season gets going, the team may add indoor spin sessions at the Somerset Hills YMCA to help riders stay active, maintain fitness, and build consistency before outdoor riding opens up more fully.

Spring practice flow

Once daylight saving time returns and the weather improves, the goal is usually at least one weekday practice and one weekend practice. A second weekend session may be added if weather has disrupted riding or races are approaching.

Encouraged, not mandatory

Practices are strongly encouraged even when they are not strictly required. Riders usually get out of the team what they put into it, so consistency matters when families can make it work.

For team safety, the active practice calendar is not published publicly. Use this page for the overall season rhythm and planning guidance, while current team families receive detailed scheduling updates privately.

How updates are shared

Detailed practice schedules are shared privately with current team families. Official updates, timing changes, and weather calls are communicated through the team's internal channels after a rider joins.

Weather and safety calls

If weather, trail conditions, or daylight make a ride unsafe, families should expect coaches to adjust the plan, move the session, or cancel. Always check team communication before leaving for practice or a race weekend.

What families should verify weekly

Confirm the next event, rider availability, bike readiness, and any transportation or volunteer assignments so there are no surprises on practice day or race morning.

Use this page with the race and parent guides

This page explains how the season typically flows and how scheduling is handled. For first-season context on race-week logistics, volunteer roles, and what to bring, also review the race information and parent resources pages.

Private scheduling

Detailed practice dates and locations are shared privately

For team safety, the active practice calendar is not published on the public site. Current families receive the official schedule, meeting details, weather changes, and race-week reminders through private team communication after joining.

If you are exploring the program, the public pages here are meant to explain how the season works, what families should expect, and where to find race-specific information without exposing live practice details.

Before you join

Use this page for the season rhythm and planning context, the races page for public race dates, and the parent resources page for family expectations and logistics.

After you join

Current families receive the official practice schedule, location notes, weather changes, and race-week reminders through private team communication rather than the public website.
