Back on the Dirt at Dickerson Mine Preserve
Finally back on the dirt at Dickerson Mine Preserve with a two-hour ride full of technical climbs, flowy berms, and great early-season trail time.
After a long stretch of winter training and gravel rides, the Veloraptors were finally back where we belong — on the dirt at Dickerson Mine Preserve.
It was a cooler day when we rolled out, but once we got moving the woods did their job. The trees blocked most of the wind, and before long riders were shedding layers as the miles added up. Early spring riding always has that feel to it: a little chilly at the start, but perfect once the pedals start turning.
The focus of the practice was technical riding and trail flow. Riders worked their way through a series of challenging technical climbs, learning how to carry momentum and pick the best line through rocky sections. It’s one thing to power up a climb on a smooth trail — it’s another thing entirely when the terrain demands balance, patience, and smart bike handling.
Of course, Dickerson Mine isn’t just about the climbs. The reward always comes on the other side. The team got to enjoy some flowy downhill berms, practicing smooth cornering and maintaining speed through the turns. Riders worked on staying loose on the bike and letting the trail guide the flow — one of the most fun parts of mountain biking.
Between the climbs and the descents, the Veloraptors spent a solid two hours cruising through the trees, building fitness, sharpening skills, and enjoying the simple joy of riding singletrack together.
Most of all, it just felt great to be back in the woods again.
With race season approaching and the trails finally drying out, practices like this remind us why we ride: great trails, great teammates, and a whole lot of fun on two wheels.
The dirt season has officially begun.
